  1. Are you serious? The oil companies and the US government are in bed together. Of course they are making a fortune at our expense. And as long as we stand idly by and continue to take it, they will continue to give it. We should all just bend over now and ask them to keep shoving it in because until we find alternative fuel sources (which is pretty freaking slow going right now) we will have to continue to be slaves to big oil.

  2. This doesn't make sense to me either.  If there is a shortage in oil or the the people who pump the oil charge higher prices, I would think that gas companies wouldnt make so much profit.  This goes to show that everything that we hear on the news are LIES... These oil companies are crooks and taking advange of everyone on earth that depend on reasonable gas prices.

  3. Why does everyone hate on the oil companies for making a profit?  The oil companies are the ones that are making the investment, doing the work, and providing the product.  Oil companies are in the business to make a profit.

LOOK AT THE FACTS.  Oil companies make about 40 cents per gallon profit for doing all the work to get the product to the pump.  The federal government makes 18.4 cents per gallon for nothing.  State governments make from a low of 8 cents a gallon in Alaska to a high of 45 cents a gallon in Connecticut & Illinois.  The average is around 30 cents per gallon.  Many local governments also add taxes on top of these.

I would rather pay the oil company a 40 cent profit for the work they do than the government (my case is Illinois) about 65 cents per gallon for doing nothing.

  4. When I heard this on the new last night, I also felt a slap in the face.   Why do they have to rub it in?   The next thing in the news cast was that major restaurants (whom have been around a long time) were going out of business.  The next thing was that people were losing there jobs due to poor sales.  What about the travel industry?  I bet they won't make profits this year.   Look at GM.  People can't afford the majority of their vehicles any longer.  Isn't there anyone big enough to stand up to this?  I also believe that the media is a big bunch of lies and they also tell us what they want us to know.   I would say open your eyes and look around you.   Everyone that I know is struggling in some kind of way or the other.  If they are not struggling they are just not buying extras anymore.  The USA is on its way to becoming a very poor nation.  Look at the Deficit. Soon there will be no more middle class.  Just the very rich that control everything and all prices and the rest will be the very poor.   Watch how you spend your money people.  You will need competition from the suppliers in the future.

  5. $11.68 billion is peanuts! Its roughly the cost of the Iraq war for one month. Do you honestly think that the oil companies keep people like you and I in mind when they raise the prices?
