I just want to know how they can charge tax on gas for global warming when global warming is a theory that has NOT been proven yet. I myself do not believe in global warming i do not believe in al gore. I do believe that we are going through a climate change that has happened throughout history.

  1. If the people vote for it then they can do it.  If they gullible enough to believe that government can solve a  problem well that is their right.

  2. The people who say global warming is happening, are not corect. If that would have happined, then why would it have snowed her about 4 days ago.

  3. ahh i think you said it all in your opening question ,isn't it irronic that they want to tax people on something that is contributing to it!, ima bout to pull my bike out of the garage and say to h**l with cars anyway ,but as soon as people catch on to whats going on and they start bike riding ,walking etc,, we will be taxed for persperation , sounds silly but i read they are trying to cange the way a cow farts because it is a supposive contribute to global warming

  4. If it is a theory, then it has been scientifically proven through use of the scientific method, producing the same observable results every time the experiment is concluded.

A theory is therefore a generally accepted scientific opinion. A theory does not have to be proven right, as it is based on tested, observable evidence (or FACT). Every scientific theory is argued against by individuals. A theory needs to be proven wrong through use of the scientific method, and this has not been done yet by any anti-global warming conspirists.

How they can charge a tax based on this theory? Nuclear power plants pay tax based on how much nuclear waste they produce. Oil and coal refineries pay a tax on the amount of carbon emissions they produce. The tax is a way for the government to collect money from emissions contributing to global warming, to go towards programs to combat global warming.

  5. Good question.  I guess they need money for the entitlement programs.  After all can't run the paper press all the time.  Theory blah, blah, blah.  How many people need to be torched for its sake?

  6. Because the body of scientific evidence supports the theory.  As do virtually all scientific experts.

If a doctor tells you "you're probably going to die unless you buy this heart medication", do you refuse to buy it because he hasn't "proven" that the heart condition will kill you?

Besides which, the people get to vote on whether the fee is enacted!

  7. they can because someone was stupid enough to vote for them.  kick them out, repeal the tax, and let life go on.

  8. What does truth or facts have to do with government decisions.  They can tax anything they want as long as the people stand for it.

  9. Yes it has happened before throughout history, and that's why we have so much evidence that CO2 contributes to it.  Even if global warming were not happening, we need to conserve gas due to the "peak oil" problem which will only drive gasoline prices through the roof from here.

I agree though that a tax is the wrong way to go.  A transportation tax is regressive, affecting the cost of everything to everyone, with no compensating (financial, economic) benefit.

Taxes also get redirected by politicians over time, causing goal-justified taxes to miss achieving their original goals.

The California Lottery was pitched to voters as a way to fund community colleges. Once it passed, all their prior funding was then stripped away, so there was no not gain, the new money simply became one more part of the gaint state slush fund.

Instead, why not penalize gas guzzlers and reward gas misers?  You'd get far more effectiveness, much faster, and most importantly you can have all payments net out to zero, for a result of no net cost to the economy.

Which side of the equation a person falls on would be entirely voluntary, based on their own choices.  Funds could be automatically calculated, collected and rebated to all vehicle owners during the annual vehicle registration process.

Incentives rewarding people for better choices are the way to go, not taxes.
