  1. I agree with the others, and it also teaches consequence. When the child gets to go up a ladder, it is because of a good deed (he is feeding the cat at the bottom, the cat loves him at the top). The opposite is true for the chutes (breaks a window at the top, pays for it out of his allowance at the bottom).

  2. taking turns, sharing, new words,up and down, counting, colours, numbers,hand/eye co ordination,

  3. Vocab: Up, down, forward, backwards, counting numbers from die.

Instructions: If you have instruction book (or make your own simple version) they can read (or have it read to them).

Understanding: rules, turn taking, making connection between snake=down, ladder=up

    Dispositions: Positive attitude, winner/loser etc

  4. It will be teaching him social skills and learning how to win and lose gracefully.  He will be learning maths as well, counting the dice and the spaces.  He also learns rules and how they must be followed to win the game properly.

  5. Children should be encouraged to talk to one another 'Your turn',  My turn', 'Your next'. 'pass the dice' etc.  They will need to follow verbal instructions and rules.  They are learning social skills in how to operate as part of a group, take turns, share, be patient.  Learning about maths as well as the vocabulary involved in maths skills: counting, quantity, able to move their piece the correct number as shown on the dice, more than, less than, higher, lower etc.  Physical skills in moving their counter, rolling dice.

  6. snakes and ladders? I have never heard of this -but just keep encouraging speech and communication while you're playing.  Intellectual development will be counting and (are colors involved?).  If this is like chutes and ladders, it is more math and sliding backwards and moving forwards.  Great game for the preschool age.  Have fun!

  7. The most important thing for preschoolers to learn is socialization skills.  Taking turns, sharing, sportsmanship, communicating properly with one another etc...  Besides all the academic things... counting, colors fine motor coordination etc...

  8. The child will see moving up as an increase in numbers, because the child actually moves the pieces.

    Helps with counting.

    Helps with understanding rules

Appreciates competition and who is ahead of whom

    Gains excitement with parent

But most of all it will give you time with your child - forget about learning targets and have fun!
