Question:

How can this happen?

So I just received a phone call. When I answered the line was dead. So, I call back the number immediately after and I got the message "This phone is no longer in service, and has been diconnected"

So I did a reverse phone look up. It was an out-of-state call, and I never even heard of the people at the address.

So how can I receive a call from a disconnected phone line?

  1. most likely reason.......telemarketer that uses CallerId spoofing.

  2. I have a service where I can have my phone return a "This line is disconnected" message to any number I want... Either individual numbers, or any number not on a list.

Example: You are not in my phone book, you get that message.

Someone with a similar service may have called your number by accident and hung up. When you called them back, you weren't on their list and got that message.

(This isn't that special. Years Ago... the disconnected message was my answering machine greeting. If you knew me you knew to stay on the line, if you didn't you hung up and left me alone)

  3. Probably spoofing,  but who cares.   I get hang up calls all the time but don't bother waisting my time and playing games trying to figure out who called me.   Just say F' it and move on with your life...
