How can u get a 4 year old out of diapers?

My little sister refuses to go to the bathroom on the "potty" and she wants to keep wearing diapers, but she JUST turned 4! HELP!

You should give her like an M&M everytime she uses the toilet to motivate herrrr.

Positive reinforcement is always the key. Praise her when she uses the potty and even use bribery as well. Like someone else mentioned, giving a M&M every time she goes potty. On the show Jon and Kate Plus 8 they use this tactic. They'll give an M&M for going potty and two for going "poopy".

Yes, you need help.try taking her to the potty when she get up in the morning, she may not want to but you must be firm with her,and getting her favorite cartoon characters panties are what ever she likes and tell her how pretty they are and what a big girl she is.You must be very firm with her because if she is not in school she Will be soon and most school don't want to except kids if they are not potty trained. You can put some blue food coloing in the toilet and ask her to pee in there and see if the color changes.to green...good luck

Cold turkey, baby.

Summer is the best time to do this as you can be outside in undies and if there's an accident no biggie whereas in the winter you're stuck inside with carpeting and furniture that can't be easily cleaned.

It's nice with girls to stick them in dresses as well as they don't have to worry about dealing with buttons, zippers, etc. when getting to the potty in time. My guess is that unless there is some sort of developmental delay in your sister at this age she knows when she has to go and training would be done within days. Stick her in big girl panties (make a big deal out of going to the store to buy some) and a small reward (we use 1 M&M for pee and 2 M&MS for poops) each time she is successful and she should be diaper-free within days.

Ok just make the leap. She is 4 now so she can understand when you tell her NO MORE DIAPERS! She may resist and throw a temper tantrum but if shown consistency she will get the idea. If she was anything like my little girl she will understand that she can't go to school wearing diapers because the other kids will laugh at her. She won't want to feel embarrassed so that can be used as motivation. Or tell her that they quit making diapers in her size so she has to wear panties like a big girl. She will probably have accidents or even do it on purpose but eventually she will realize that she doesn't like the feeling of wet, cold panties against her skin and start using the potty. Key point is consistency.

By her favorite character big girl panties and when she soils herself tell her that the characters are upset with her because she got them all yucky instead of going on the potty.  And they would be so excited if she went on the potty.  

There are even phone numbers you can call and they'll call back as a character and you can tell them what to say.  Or have a friend call up and pretend to be her favorite character and congratulate her on going on the potty.
