  1. A male will have a green_blue cere (nose) and a female will have light pink to a brown

The ceres will only change color after they have matured (about a year)

You can also tell age by the number of stripes on their caps (head) a lot means they are young and few to none means old

  2. A female has a brown or pink cere and a male has a blue cere. See pic here:

  3. Okay so it's actually a little more complicated..

Mature female parakeets typically have a brownish cere (area above the beak) and mature male parakeets typically have a bluish cere. You'll be able to tell when the parakeet is a few months old, and until then the cere will be a pinkish color. There are types of parakeets called dominant and recessive pied (those titles just refer to the pattern of the colors on their feathers), and both types are more difficult to tell based on the color of the cere, but recessive pied parakeets are exceptionally difficult. Pied male adults might maintain a pinkish/purple color to their cere.

There are other ways of telling whether or not the parakeet is male or female, you can get a DNA test (most accurate) or you can observe it's behavior. Male parakeets are much more vocal and even those females may chirp, male parakeets tend much more to sing, (it could be described as a "warbling" sound). Male parakeets also do what is called "head-bobbing" which is exactly what it sounds like. Male parakeets tend to just show off much more than females.

    I hope this helped.

  4. a male parakeet has a blue cere ( where the nose holes are ) and a female has a rusty colored or white cere
