How can u tell if a tortoise is dead?

Well, for starters, if it doesn't move for long periods of time, might be dead. If doesn't eat, p**p, or any other turtle things they do, most likely, it's dead.

umm well it wouldn't be moving, eating or breathing for starters and it would be pretty stinky.  But if you wanna be very sure that your tortoise is dead, take it to a vet and ask his/her opinion.  I think they have been educated enough to tell if your turtle is dead or not.  (but just to be safe don't bury it yet)

it is unresponsive to touch and handling. it would be limp, or stiff if it's been dead for a while now.
