  1. Are there three pedals on the floor (manual) or two pedals (automatic)

  2. A manual transmission has a clutch pedal.

  3. Are you talking about from looking at the transmission, or just looking at the car?

Looking at the car: A manual transmission will have a shift k**b mounted between the front seats with a gear pattern on it, a clutch pedal to the left of the brake pedal. An automatic transmission will have the shift pattern beside it either on the dash or consol between the two front seats as it can be mounted in either place. It will say P, R, N, D, 3, 2, 1. It only has two pedals.

Looking at the transmission: The automatic will have a pan much like an oil pan, and a dipstick extending to the engine compartment. A manual will have only drain and fill plugs with possibly a clutch fork and slave cylinder to engage it.

  4. the petals or or the shifter some are even both i dont know what they call them but their automatic and u can change gears but no clutch

  5. a manual transmission has three pedals on the floorboard--gas, clutch and brake...the gear shift has the numbers 1,2,3,4,5,and reverse...you change the gears...

in an automatic there is two pedals on the floorboard--gas and brake and on the gear shift it usually has, park, drive, 1, 2, neutral and reverse the car will shift when driving

  6. automatic = gears change automatically by computer

manual = you shift gears, using the clutch and stick shift in the right sequence

  7. An automatic transmission sifts gears automatically, where  a manual transmission requires you to shift the gears yourself. In an automatic transmission you select the gear you want to be in and the transmission will shift into higher and lower gears by itself.

Manual transmissions you have to shift the gears up and down when necessary.you can hear the engione reve up when you speed up knowing you have to shift up.  you up shift by pushing down on the cluth pedal with your foot and move the gear selecter. is working less, you do the same except move the shifter handle to the lower gear. Manuals are a bit more complicated to drive. They are usually more fuel efficent.
