How can u tell which way a wave is breaking while surfing?

Question

whenever im surfing i catch a wave and go right into the white water and my ride ends can anyone tell me how to find out which way the wave is gonna break, and any hints on riding backside?

first u look at which side looks bigger in height  cuz u will always go the side thats smaller but if they look the same tyr 2 fid out which side looks like there going to 2 break first!!
