How can u tell which wire is positive and which wire is negative when the wires look the same? ?

these wires r being ran from a 12volt power thing and i need to know which one is which ,because i do not what to hook up the thing to a power source with out knowing because it will blow the thing.i don,t know which one is positive so i really don,t know which one to put the inline fuse on.

follow the wires back to the power sorce, it should be labeled, as for the inline fuse you want it on the positive wire, usually red = + and black = - if they arent colored you will have to follow them to the head unit or to the battery to find out
