How can used motor oil be recycled?

Used motor oil is already recycled in many cases. its done by filtering. you can find it undr various tradenames...50 years ago in my beater car, I was a GI, i used "deeprock" in the midwest. that which is to be recycled is collected at service stations and places like jiffylube,etc

If u take it to any waste facility they recycke oil for free

Whatever you do DONT pour it down the drain!!!  People have no idea how toxic these chemicals are and our water treatment plants were not built to filter chemicals...one liter of oil in the ocean can poison miles of it...that's how nasty the stuff is, and to think, barrels of toxic waste and PCBs lie eroding at bottoms of oceans...from eras where they knew not any better (or most likely just didn't give a hoot)...and yet...there they sit quietly poisoning ocean life.

You can take it to parts stores, such as Autozone and Advance Auto Parts, and they will recycle it for you.  Also, some of your local service repair centers will let you dispose of it with them.

there is a blue drum outside my garage at 124 st guilluame rd vars you can drop it off there as long as the container are not leaking i will pour them in my waste oil drum to get picked up later

today old engine oil is burned but why not put it back into the refinery to make new oil?

Leave to Autozone.  A large steel container is located in the back room for you to drain into after changing you cars motor oil.  They probably sell it for recycling purposes.  For what it is used for,  the petroleum companies make sure its doesn't make a big difference with the public.
