  1. If you can have eggs, they are great for protein. You can even buy just egg whites in a container nowadays.

I also suggest peanut butter (though that’s mostly for healthy fat).

Rice and beans is the big one. The amino acids complement each other, making it a more complete protein. (Vegetable protein sources are incomplete by themselves, making most vegetarians need even MORE protein. Eating rice and beans together will really help curb that problem.)

You can also get Soy protein powders, but too much soy is really bad for you, so use that in moderation.

Lactose free whey protein powders are probably a good idea. High quality protein, and lots of it.

  2. There are actually many places to get protein. Some natural sources are beans, nuts, eggs, bean curd, tofu, and even the fake meat products. :)

If all else fails, you can always go the protein drink way - but the above should do fine. My entire family's been vegetarian for the last five years or so and my mom would always get me to eat nuts for snacks and encourage the ingestion of the above.

  3. Okay I'm a vegetarian too, and its simple: protein can come from other places like peanut butter, beans, tofu, soy milk, lean dairy, milk, hummus, and the fake meats you can find in the naturals freezer section.

  4. The average person only needs about 50 grams of protein per day. Protein is in everything, just look at the side of boxes. In todays world it is very hard to be protein deficient if you are eating a wide variety. Keep a record of what you are eating through the day, and odds are, if you are eating properly, there will be no need to find more protein.

    High protein foods include:

soy milk, tofu, nuts(Almonds, Cashews, Filberts, Hemp Seeds, Peanuts, Pumpkin seeds, Sesame seeds, Sunflower seeds, Walnuts (black)), seeds, legumes(Garbanzo beans, Kidney beans, Lentils, Lima beans, Navy beans, Soybeans, Split peas), grains(Barley, Brown rice, Buckwheat, Millet, Oatmeal, Rye, Wheat germ, Wheat, hard red, Wild rice), vegetables(Artichokes, Beets, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Green peas, Green pepper, Kale, Lettuce, Mushrooms, Mustard green, Onions, Potatoes, Spinach, Tomatoes, Turnip greens, Watercress, Yams, Zucchini), fruits(Apple, Banana, Cantaloupe, Grape, Grapefruit, Honeydew melon, Orange, Papaya, Peach, Pear, Pineapple, Strawberry)

Trust me protein deficiencies are rare in the U.S and are mostly found in third world countries that suffer from famine. Most people get too much protein in their diet, instead of too little.

  5. Truth is, you only need 6 - 10% of your calories to come from protein.

    Check out the China Study!

You only need a LITTLE PROTEN... what You DO need are amino acids, not protein!!! Protein IS amino acids combined - protein is like the middle man.

Just increase your raw fruit and vegetable intake, which has tons and tons of amino acids!!!

but if you do need a lil more ACTUAL protein, beans are the best way to go.

  6. I am a vegan.  It isn't hard to get protein.  You just have to do your research.  I am not a picky eater so it isn't hard for me.  I love beans and rice.  I eat vegetarian chili.  Nuts and seeds are good choices.  There are pastas that are protein enriched.  Kashi makes cereals that are high in protein.  Also, I drink Vegan protein drinks.  I drink it with rice milk since I am a vegan and it is so delicious.

  7. tofu & beans

  8. almonds

  9. Good vegetarian sources of protein are almonds, black beans, cashews, fake meats, garbanzo beans (chickpeas), kidney beans, lentils, peanut butter, pinto beans, seitan, soybeans, soymilk, sunflower seeds, and tofu.

  10. Tofu is a classic, but SEITAN is so GOOD. Seriously it's delicious. It's a wheat protein and you can cook it however. Tempeh is also really good with black beans!

  11. i have been struggling with getting enough protein forevvvvver.. i was just browing questions looking for an answer. i came across silkin tofu in smoothies. i don't like tofu by itself.. its a texture thing. .but something blended into a smoothie couldn't be too bad. lots of beans, nuts.. add protein powder to things.
