How can we (Americans) stop the deterioration of our country?

I'm sick to death of everything-terrorism, bin Laden, the erosion of civil liberties, the constant lying by our government... I could go on for ever. I hate this feeling of helplessness and hopelessness that seems to be permeating the country. Aside from voting, what can we, the average American citizens do to get our country back?

  1. do you remember the story of the little boy named Peter holding back the flood waters by sticking his finger into the d**e and saving Holland?  Well that's just a story.  Europe, the US have invited the infidels into the heartland as has Canada.  More than that nice North American men and women are dying for a war that can't ever be won.  You can't "fix" Afghanistan.  No one asked Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld or their corporate entities- Harken, Haliburton; Kellog ,Brown and Root to attack Iraq when Iraq had nothing to do with the 9/11 tragedy. I would think voting for democratic candidates would help.

At least in WWII there was a clear menace, but these more recent wars are for the profit of families who have made money off the blood of their neighbor's sons for centuries.

    Maybe pray.  I wouldn't advise a revolution

  2. Get rid of 8 out of 10 of our disrespectful teenagers- I'm pretty sure 2 out of 10 can be fixed with some discipline-

or at least teach them all how to speak and spell!

    U k wit dat?

  3. For one, QUIT BUYING DISCOUNT c**p. Cheaper is not better. Walmart, Dollar Stores etc.. So many forign countries own everything in the USA, and we just keep selling ourselves short, buying into the c**p.

A vacuum cleaner should last years, not months.

Pencils that cost 99 cents a dozen are pure junk. They break and are not dark.

Those stupid immitation batteries that last 30 minutes.

Plastic toys that do nothing but break.

This country needs to wake up and buy USA products, in time the jobs will come home.

If we don't shape up, pretty soon the Earth will be egg shaped. The land fills in the USA will be so overloaded from all of the shoddy products being imported, it will bulge and knock the axis out of orbit.

  4. Give all the Credit to the Liberal Democratic Party, that supports all the things that the Bible says is Wrong.  This is a wonderful Country and we as a nation should get back to the Basics, Family, Bible, Honor, Personal responsibility, etc.

  5. Be informed about all sides of the issues . Make your choice based on this. An express your choices with firm knowledge to all you talk to about these problems and how you see them.

  6. There are many places in the world where things are much worse than in the USA.

From a political view, neither major party has the "one best plan" for America. Hopefully someone will step up to the plate with OUR interests at heart instead of their political party's agenda. For the Republicans the closest we have to that  would be Thompson.

For the Democrats, Obama is by far the lesser of two evils.

We need to insist our government:

Stop illegal immigration and solve the problems with those already here

Reduce our foreign debt before China burys us economically

End all special interest legislation and attempts

Drastically reduce our dependency on foreign energy

Stop giving away our technological advancements and intellectual property

More precisely focus our anti-terrorism efforts and stop "country-building"

Our youth should spnd a minimum amount of time "in service" to the country to get full benefits of the rights we enjoy. Not necessarily in the military, there are thousands of ways a young person can serve the country.

  7. to focus on education and morals .

  8. Come to the light!  The Republican party that is!  You can do it!  Besides, listening too much to the mainstream media would frighten anybody - they're trying to make you feel "dependent" on them.

  9. By stop being so apathetic, get involved in what is happening .

  10. My but you have a short viewpoint of history!  Deterioration of our country?  I'll take today over most of the 60's and 70's.  And for that matter, the 30's and early 40's.

Yes, the terrorism is being overhyped, but that's the media's fault.  Before terrorism it was the "Year of the Shark" and other such nonsense.  Turn off the d**n TV and radio and escape the nonstop negativity eminating from them.

Erosion of civil liberties?  How many Americans have actually had their civil liberties violated unjustly.  d**n few!  And eventually the courts stepped in and stopped it, as they should have.  Foreigners picked up on battlefields fighting out of uniform have no civil liberties.  In the good old days they'd be interrogated and shot as spies.  Now we house them in a tropical prison and give them 3 square meals a day and all the Korans and prayer time they can eat.

The only liars in gov't are the ones telling us the sky is falling.  Stop listening to them.

Honestly, turn off the 24 hour cable news networks.  Get out and enjoy how wonderful our country really is.  Go read a book instead of the newspaper.

It's getting so bad that I can't watch TV news any more.  I'll go on the internet, but I shy away from all the Terrorism and war stories.  Read a good business story or local story.  Far more interesting.

  11. Wake up tomorrow and do something nice for someone else.  Repeat each day.

  12. The following may seem like gigantic things that the average person could not do; but remember the Founders where just as average as anyone else.  All that is lacking is the unity and the will to carry these through.  And as such here are my proposals:

By forming a viable third party.  One that is not beholden to either the Bog Corps or the special interests crowd.  One that actually represents the Common Working Class Citizen and does not care what the Corporations or other Special interests think.

By modifying the federal.State and Local  laws to make it so that a more diverse assortment of people can run for offices.

This will allow for a greater amount of points of view to gain a Stage from which to speak to the People, as is fitting and proper.

By allotting a certain amount of seats in the House by proportional representation. This would ensure that it would not just be a two-party make pretend game anymore.

By returning to the States the Right to Elect Senators. This would go a long way toward restoring Checks and Balances

By amending the Constitution so that Supreme Court Judges serve no more than 12 years.  And by making them impeachable by the House and triable by the Senate.

By placing strict term limits on all Representatives and Senators; perhaps 6 terms for Reps, and 2 for Senators. And by making these life time limits.

By making it easier for States to recall those that do not adequately represent them.  This is the only recourse that a People can have against a two faced Representative.  And it is shameful that we can not do so now.

By abolishing the IRS, AND the FED!

By abolishing the plethora of Federal, State and Local regulatory agencies that have made this Country into a de facto Communist/Fascist b*****d that the founders would not even recognize.

By returning to paper ballots.  Electronic machines are simple not a reliable method of voting while the machine code is a trade secret.  Paper ballots have been proven with the test of time, and could be made from recycled paper.

By forcing our servants to head our word.  That is by taking to the streets and demanding that our Voice be heard in the Public forum.

and if all of that fails by a restructuring of the power distribution!

  13. Direct Action. Also quit listening to the mainstream media look for independent news it leaves alot of hope. And we need to start standing up for what we believe in!

  14. Nothing is so powerful as a united front.  But that is of no use without individual integrity/morality.  We currently have a horrible drug problem in this country; former Mexican president Fox said of the U.S. drug problem, "Well, you guys buy the stuff."  Radical Muslims are quick to point out the degeneracy of Western culture, with all the drug use and promiscuity, out of wedlock children, etc.  But a society based on forced obedience is not the answer either.  We need to start rebuilding the moral America, and that starts with the individual, so put down you joint and put away your condoms, because if you live right, you won't need them.

  15. Reject political correctness and multiculturalism. Get the government out of our homes and schools. Fight illegal immigration. Abolish the IRS  and replace it with a national sales tax. Vote libertarian or independent. reject and remove Democrats from office since they have no ideas. And get rid of the republicans since the only ideas they have are bad ones. Do away with the welfare state and make people be responsible for their own lives instead of making the working class pay for it. Do away with about 90 percent of the laws in this country and then  enforce the the ones that actually count. Just to name a few.

  16. This is one of the most interesting questions out there, it goes hand in hand with, "Is there more I could be doing to help out our nation?" It is hard to look at life as an ordinary American citizen and wonder if there is something more that you could do. Voting is the beginning, after that things are not as easy.

One of the things that I find is fun to do and helps to point things in a direction is not looking so much at a national point of view. We all get fixed on this idea that in order to change the way things are going we have to change the leadership at the very top. However, this is really not the case, the leaders at the top are important, but at the same time they are not instrumental in effecting change the way your local leaders are.

A little over a year ago I got involved with a historical project taking place in my hometown. Now we are not a big town or anything like that, but we have a lot of history in our town. It was sitting on that council helping determine what historical information should be brought to the attention of the citizens as well as to visitors that I realized I was making a small impact. This is where I really recommend that you get started. If you really want to see change start attending those local city council meetings and the county board meetings. It is through this process that you can start making changes at a local level, a place where the changes are going to have an impact directly on you.

Once you get involved there they can help you get more involved in larger group workings, things that will lead to a much larger social impact on the entire nation. More than anything, I guess I am saying simply that in an effort to make a difference you have to start small and work your way up. There are few who can navigate the current when going up the political river.

  17. You will cast aside your "liberty" and swear allegiance to the Queen.

  18. Terrorism is not unique to the USA, in fact, we probably have less than most countries, Bin Laden is a criminal that eventually will have to face Justice, but the last I heard, no one suspects that he is in the USA and as far as his threat, see above statement on Terrorism; Erosion of civil liberties, I feel you'd be hard pressed to find any other country with more civil liberties than the USA.  Aside from voting, get involved, have neighborhood watches and take back our neighborhoods from the criminals through lawful cooperation with the law enforcement agencies, support our troops - agree or disagree with the war, but support the men and women that risk their lives in the uniforms of the USA.  Take action to secure our borders, contact legislators, start and circulate petitions of registered voters that support secure borders and send them to the House and Senate, support enforcement of current immigration laws.  The only thing necessary for evil to win is for good men (and women) to do nothing.

  19. Unfortunately not much cause if we try to do something we will be arrested under the Patriot Act i.e. Martial Law, because you do not agree with the governments way of rights, and they see you as a threat to them. So there goes your Constitutional Right for Freedom of Speech.

  20. Trash the Democrats, trash the Republicans, trash the lobbyists,  stop spending of wars and socialist programs, give everyone equal rights (this means no affirmative action, give g**s rights, etc.), and finally stop blowing this whole terrorist thing out of proportion and invading countries over it.

In other words, elect Ron Paul.

  21. The common working force of America has no real power in America's true decision making anymore.  It is left up to the educated and rich.  You may want to change things but our politicians and government organizations are to powerful.  The best thing you can do is to take care of your family members and protect them in dark hours that will fall on America in the near future.

    Dominus Vobiscum

  22. What country ? Isn´t America a continent ?

  23. Stop reading/listening to O'Reilly, Coulter, Hannity etc. would be a great start.  They are purposefully divisive (they get paid handsomely for being so--as we found out with the Don Imus scandal.)

  24. Throw Bush out of the White House, and the Republican scumbags in Congress right after him.

  25. You are disenfranchised, you are not alone but the category of citizens you belong to, you and your piers have been trivialized.

Your contributions to society, your productivity, does not generate enough influence for you to be counted.

To those with influence you may as well list among your concerns that your homework is too hard.

All you can do is join with others that share your concerns, beware what you may unwittingly contribute to such as buying products from china while complaining about the quality of their products.

  26. I personally think we need to turn away from the media and do the research ourselves on many topics, thus forming our own opinion. We need to speak up against our representatives that refuse to do what we, the voters, wanted. We must unite more than ever and not allow to be stepped on. We must help each other out. We need to look ahead and work together as a country, not like a political party or company. I feel that our civil liberties need to be given back and we need to hold our government accountable but the only way we can do that is if we unite and fight them. I've felt hopeless many times, wondering if our country will ever wake up. Until last year, I thought about all our efforts going down the drain. But then I realized that, when we want to, we can stand up for what we want the most. Don't be afraid of the government, remember that we pay them. I also wish that we can capture Bin Laden for once and for all and we can defend our borders too. Thanks!

  27. I think focusing less on partisan politics and actually listening to other people instead of just arguing with them is a start, and also more focus on reality and results than rhetoric and ideals.

  28. I honestly dont thing there is much wrong with us. We're still a great country!!!!!!!

  29. Vote Republican !

  30. Bottom line, vote for what you believe in. I'm voting for Ron Paul, but you can vote for who you think can make a difference. If you don't vote, you have no right to complain.

  31. we did it in the 60's i mean protest ...protest..and more until the government knows what we who are people will want our soldiers home.

After that we need to perserve our country to the point that we protect ourselfs....911 will come again
