  1. I dont get it.  Most vain woman risk killing themselves in solariums to get tanned.

  2. Just don't do it.  There's no rule anywhere that says you have to have skin as white as porcelain.

  3. I don't understand this - are you saying that increasing numbers of women are trying to bleach their skin and looking pale?

I haven't heard of this...i know, at least in America, that most women wish to achieve a tanned look.

Since a phenomenon such as a fad is followed by so many people at one time, the majority of people usually over-run the minorities who oppose the idea. The only way for a person to resist it is personally, as an individual. (just like other examples. Here's one - school scene. Most of the people adopt a "ghetto style". Naturally there are small groups of people who resist it. But if they go to the "ghetto" people trying to convince them to change their habits or style, of course the minority will be scorned and refused. If a woman truly wants to bleach her skin for whatever reason, it would be difficult for another person to dissuade her.)

If you as an individual oppose skin-bleaching for a pale complexion, there isn't much you can do to change people's mindset...unless you are willing to campaign in some way. The main thing you can do to overcome it personally is not doing it.

Why don't you try starting some type of interactive blog featuring your views?

[sorry, my point of view tends to be rather neutral]

  4. Back in the 80's, many women in Japan and Korea got plastic surgery to get rid of their epicanthal fold and look more "western."  As a white guy who generally dates Asians I find this abhorrent... same goes for a woman who bleaches her skin to be more pale.  While most of my GF's have been Japanese or Chinese - who tend to be lighter, even white - I find women who are Khmer, Burmese and Vietnamese to be stunning and part of their look is their darker skin.

That's a pretty male view but... from a male feminist standpoint...

The women who are doing that are submitting to a societal push to look more like the oft-touted "feminine ideal" which few women (namely tall, thin caucasians) meet.  In doing so they are denying who they are as individuals and this is, to me, a shame of the first order.  They are drastically altering their bodies to appeal to what they percieve as mens' desires in the hopes of being thought of as more "beautiful."

  5. Think about the reasons why an Asian woman would have her skin bleached. Do any of them sound viable to you?

  6. Just get the attitude, if you don't like me the way I am, go below.

  7. Hopefully, you can educate other women about the dangers of skin bleaching, and also make a point of how beautiful natural skin is.

Working with as many organisations with similar aims as possible gives you a louder voice with which to make yourselves heard.

Another option is to approach a serious minded woman journalist and try to interest her in beginning a campaign against skin bleaching. Smaller newspapers are a good place to start as they mosre often need interesting and controversial news than larger publications.

You could also approach respected people in the community as well as celebrities and ask them to support your cause. You will need good facts and figures and perhaps information from supportive doctors, but if a prominent person will supoort you, and agree to speak with the media, you have a chance to get publicity and generate interest.

Once you get people talking, you can keep up the pressure until it becomes a debate noticed by others.

You can very often appeal to women by pointing out that their daughters and sons will copy their behaviour, and practice this unhealthy behaviour ~ let them know that for the sake of their children, they must love themselves as they are, and pass that message along to their families.

For younger women, you can promote the message that they look false and clown like, compared to the natural and healthy good looks of others.

Little by little women may come to realise that skin bleaching is unhealthy and unnecessary, and that they are more beautiful as nature made them.

A link below about how to undertake a campaign.

Good luck and best wishes! :-)

  8. Uh...I don't know of anyone that bleaches their skin.  Well, except Michael Jackson I guess.  That's just gross.

  9. Never seen it to my knowledge.  My girl is asian and a fairly dark one at that.  Love it!

  10. OK, I'll answer from the feminist view.

...Men are to blame for that.

  11. cuz they wanna be white. just like white woman want to be black

  12. It makes me think they are trying to be white, especially if they also get plastic surgery to have the folds on their eyelids removed or get chin implants to make their faces less round. There's nothng wrong with them as they are. They shouldn't try to make themselves into something they aren't.

  13. wow u guys bleach your skin so like plz tell more that weird. I wonder why some chinese look different then others thats cuz u guys bleach wow. I alwasy new

  14. People look better in their natural state.

  15. Just dont do it. The fad sucks anyway. I wouldnt date a woman that did that.

  16. And eye-flap surgery too.  I am soooo very sorry, how bloody awful.  Bleach is corrosive, I would never "inflict" on the body's largest organ - the skin!

Its all about the beauty ideal: a blonde, blue-eyed white woman.  And like Coca-Cola, its everywhere.

  17. I didn't know Asian women were facing that...really?

Same way white, black, Hispanic women are resist 0 is the only "healthy" beautiful size, and if "you don't have size D cup t*t's they arnt good enough"

encouraging women and girls to find value in their hearts and minds, not their bodies.

  18. Don't be a robot.

It extremely similar to white women tanning...just the opposite effect.
