Constantly ask yourself "How does this thing work?" and "How could I make it work better?"

Practice your math skills

PE helps to establish yourself.  At a personal level, develop a strong background in mathematics and computer science.  Without those you will never understand the advanced concepts in engineering, or simulation.

There is no way that I know of where you could become the best engineer, because there is no competition where all the engineers participate. Maybe this should be a new olympic sport. One thing you might due is get a very high grade on your state professional engineer's exam. My best friend got the highest score ever on the Ohio P.E. exam and he got his picture in the paper!
