  1. 1) Stop watering lawns when there's a water shortage.

    2) Turn the water tap off while you're scrubbing shampoo into your hair.

    3) Get appliances that conserve water usage.

    4) When taking a shower, don't stand in there and fall asleep (I did that one time...not a pretty sight after falling and hitting my nose against the faucet).

    5) use a bucket of sudsy water to clean your car, then rinse.

    6) I can't think of anything else at the moment because my brain has just short circuited.

  2. I'm from Australia & we get charged a h**l of a lot for water, cos we don't have any...............we all try to conserve because of it, so I would like to see some pretty clever answers to this.  Prensently I live in Connecticut & it always seems to be either snowing or raining so I don't see a problem here!!! But to find a way to transport all this water economically could be an answer.

  3. Collect and store rainwater for greywater and gardening, separate plumbing systems for potable and grey water, inline water heaters at the fixture or appliance rather than a central water heater distributing hot water throughout the home (waste of all the cold water in the pipes).

An average family in Canada spends over $1,000 per year for water and domestic sewer charges, it is worth conserving.

  4. The most substantial gains in water conservation can be achieved in (1) agriculture and (2) industry:

    1. Grow crops that are suited for local conditions only. Not rice in arid areas etc. Use up to date irrigation techniques like drip irrigation, infusion etc. Avoid evaporation and exposure.

    2. Invest in up to date technology. Purify and recycle so that same water can be used over and over.
