We are getting ready to file bankruptcy and the house is going. I'm told it will be harder if we wait til we file. But I Imagine how.

Stay away from apartment complexes. They'll give you trouble for having bad credit.

Small-time landlords renting a house will rent to you if you have the money and you present yourself in a proper manner.

It takes some time to find one but check out your local paper's classified ads and call around.

I did this a few years ago. It took some time, but we eventually found a great landlord renting a small, clean house with a huge yard.

Most landlords like that just want someone who won't cause any trouble and will pay the rent. Just explain your situation...that you can't afford a huge mortgage payment but you can afford a reasonable monthly rental payment.
