How can we get the weather gurus, news channels, etc., to stop giving hurricanes human names?

Annoying? Yes! I feel sorry for anyone named Katrina, Andrew, Aunt Bertha....

  1. Tell them that an act of God is coming!!!  I live in Alaska and no one named that Big Kahuna in 1964 was never named.  It was simply the EARTH QUAKE OF GOOD FRIDAY!!!  It was a monster of a quake and my property is in an area called Earthquake Park.  This is no lie it happened on Good Friday 1964


  2. they do it so they can tell them apart without have "military" names so everyday people know whats going on

  3. It's been that way for a while... it's a lot less confusing that way.

    You see, talking about The Hurricane in 2005 could mean Rita, Katrina, or another smaller storm that hit.  When you hear Hurricane Camille, you know when it was, where it hit, and how strong it was.

  4. Adding human attributes to Nature is a human habit that's hard to kick.  Religion and mythology are based on humanizing natural phenomena, or creating deities with human characteristics.

    I do find it funny that meteorologists consider themselves scientists yet follow this definitely non-scientific tradition.
