We are worried about our family cat. We found him today hurt but can't tell what exactly happened. He has dry blood around his neck but not bleeding. He walks pretty good and drinks a lot of water. However, he has a very deep cry. He's walking from place to place occasionally. Often he's going under beds and other places he can be by himself. Our other cats go up to him and sniff, and one of them attacked him.

  1. Maybe he got into a fight or rubbed on something that cut him. You probably have to clean the blood off to see the wound if there is one. If there is a wound clean it really good, like you would on yourself. If it's deep, you'll need to take him to the vet. If it's just a small wound, you should keep it clean and put some gauze around it to keep it clean. You really should take him to the vet if he's not current on his shots, even if it's only a small wound. if you don't see anything, he probably got in a fight or killed something, the deep meowing could just be because he is in heat.

  2. please take him to vet immidietly!! the reason why ur other cat attacked him was because the injured cat smelled different than him and other cats. after u take him to vet, please bath or groom him so that it'll smell like other cats.

  3. Was he wearing a collar  before? He might have hung himself on the collar, it cut him, and irritated his throat before he got loose.

    This is a strange one....

  4. The most likely injury about the neck that would break the skin would be a cat bite, or a dog bite.

Of course as you know, you should take him to the vet, if only to look for and treat the source of the bleeding. An experienced vet should have a pretty good guess about what happened. Meanwhile you can look at his toenails - are they worn down or shredded? If so, it suggests he was hit (or run over) by a car, or otherwise grossly traumatized (attacked by a dog or person, took a very violent fall or narrow escape, etc), and could have internal injuries. Also see if he resists having his mouth or face touched - if so it could indicate injuries in his mouth or jaw. It is easier to localize pain at home where he is more relaxed, than at the vet where he will be tense, so try gathering info at home if he isn't too sore to be handled. The vet's thorough physical exam plus any info you can get, should at least narrow down the problem enough to treat it and make him feel better. Hope he's ok

  5. A checkup with the vet will let you know if he has internal injuries or anything else that may be of concern.  Spend the $35 and get him checked out.  If he's going into dark spaces, he's probably hurting.

  6. How worried are you? Do you think someone on Y!A can give you a diagnosis that will save your injured and weakened cat's life?

It needs to see a vet for immediate medical attention. It needs emergency medical attention but maybe he will live another night. If you are worried take him to an emergency vet, but at the very least take him to a regular vet tomorrow!

  7. You need to get him to the vet.  Since he is hiding, that is his way of telling you he's really hurt.  Plus cats can sense when others are hurt, that would be why the are sniffing at each other and attacking.  He could have internal injuries. Get him to the vet
