  1. Why wasn't this sort of help being offered when we, Up in Carlisle, got flooded in January 2005. Our city was devastated aswell !!!! ( And it was bloody freezing at the time)

We simply survived through community spirit !!!!!!!!

  2. It won't come to that.  The Royal Navy, the Army and Royal Air Force are working flat out 24/7 with the Fire Brigades, Police and other rescue services, ambulance etc.

The reality is that there is not much anyone can do until the flood waters subside.

In the meantime, those folk who are in difficulty are getting help.

We also now have the RNLI working too.

Edit: Stuart P above is right, all anyone can do wait for the waters to go down.

The British people are on the whole, courageous, stoic and brave.  Everything that can be done is being done.  Meantime, community spirit is all important.

  3. It's interesting how you determine who are "your" people. I would prefer to think of people "everywhere" as simply people I haven't met yet. Regardless, if you have specific skills and equipment that could help, you should contact the British government and offer. You can contribute to whatever funds are being set up to help, both of which would help without simply adding to the confusion of the flooding.

  4. Hull flooded a few weeks back ... where were you then he?

  5. clean out the friggen drains so they dont overflow for one.  This is becoming a big problem all over the uk not just gloucester and tewksbury.  Also build defences against the rivers overflowing.  We need to look at flood defences now all over the uk especially if we are going to have wetter weather systems due to global warming.

  6. well we could get fred west around to do some building work, and harold shipman to take care of thr elderly

  7. get out there and help them. if they need to be evacuated. let them stay in our homes!!!!!!

my brother stayed in a pub. come on england!!!!!!!

  8. I'm near Tewksbury, and I think all we can do is wait for the levels to drop, and hopefully the rain to stop.

People can be so kind in these times.

  9. I don't think you can equate it to the natural disasters some asian countries have experienced in recent years. Most people are insured and will be inconvienienced for a few weeks. Unlike those in the Tsunami for example who lost everything.

  10. Little can be done to help these people because the Civil Defence Corps was stood down many years ago. We need to get it back up and running. Climate change is on  a par with international terrorism as a threat to society.

  11. i think your right we should all pull together to help fellow human kind our goverment is c**p at this and leave it to the likes of us i think the lottery could help at this time as thay have the funds ready to help and i think people dont mind we should all write to the lottery to ask for there support also other gamberling out lets

  12. give them a boat

  13. This is not a tsunami that has killed thousands...so keep your anti aid argument for a more appropriate time please.

The tragedy that is afflicting Gloucester and other areas is partly unusual and unpredictable, and partly the result of poor political management.  No one could have predicted when this would happen, but a lot of people could have predicted that it WOULD happen!

The second reason this has happened in the way that it has is that the electorate would have rounded on any political party that spent billions doing what they needed to do.

Everyone would have been up in arms moaning about the billions spent on something that hadn't happened and wasn't likely too.

How long ago was it we were denying global warming??????
