  1. Are you talking about the people who live in the landmines area, or the people who mine the land?:) Seriously, my support goes to the former.

What often happens is that foreign investors claim lands with the promise of making a progressive community. But many years after, when the resources have been scraped off, the mine closes and leave them in devastation. To know how we can help, we must know the effects on the community.

In terms of health, it cannot be helped that toxic chemicals mix with the water supply. In the process, plants and animals get poisoned. Consumers get sick, with mental retardation the best example.

How to help...remove the mining company. That would not seem realistic however, knowing that the technology-laden world needs so much stuff. So I say, make a good terms of agreement, and see that they sit down to do it too. Cast out foreign mining companies. Whatever they earn, it does not go back to the country who owns the land in the first place. The foreigners get richer while they grow poorer. The credit goes to the company and the country has to suffer its loss. While they can be compensated with money, it sure is of less value as compared to what they could have earned in the first place. When we think of its effects, their future is being robbed under their feet. The resources they should  be using are not theirs anymore and they have to purchase their own product.
