How can we identify the watermelon as seedless?

I am wondered... When I went to the store and see the sign that said "Seedless watermelon for $3.00 each", I am wondered that how do they know there are seedless? I guessed that they looked them as base on shape. If they are sphere, they are seedless. If they are capsule-shape, they are seed. Am I right?

It happened to me... I got a sphere watermelon that "Seedless Watermelon" posted. When I cut it and found some small black seeds inside.

Thanks...

  1. Seedless watermelons have been genetically engineered by man to be that way. On occasion, the recessive seed gene will manifest itself and the melon will contain seeds. There really is no way to  recognize a seedless melon other than to read the written signs which identify them.
