How can we keep a sense of nationalism without the republican based "go join the millitary" fox news movement?

I love America. I think us as Americans should have a greater sense of national unity and love for our country, but not in the neoconservative way. I myself am a democrat and liberal, but I hate seeing the ad campaigns for the military, and the "if youre not evangelical and support the war in iraq, then you're not american"

That is not what America is about.

America is about different people together, living freely.

How can we embrace nationalism, without the aforementioned?

We can all Stand and fight the plan to introduce the North American Union, for starters! Ill gladly stand with ya on that!

When you say "that is not what America is about" I have to disagree. Because we all have dreams and pursuits, I would stand up and defend your right to be a liberal. Freedom is what America is about. I'm not saying you have to agree with the military ads, but we can embrace Nationalism by standing against this North American Union! We've got to for the sake of our Countries Sovereignty!

In truth, you are not American and nationalism is a curse. What you want to embrace is something totally superficial and asinine. It is merely a label - an affectation - and nothing else. Had you been born a couple of thousand miles north, you'd be calling yourself a Canadian or a Mexican if you'd been born to the south. Other than a bunch of traditions, what bearing has it on reality? Nothing. You are the same as every other person on this planet and nationalism, much like religion is a divisive factor in society. If you call yourself an American and I call myself something else, we have immediately built a wall between each other, as we have reached conclusions about ourselves and what we 'are'. It is human nature to think that WE alone are correct and everything we stand for is just and thus we have the world we live in. God worship and flag worship are offshoots of the same screwed up little brain - they are in effect nothing more than tribalism. If you define yourself by identifying with an arbitrary set of ideas, then you will lead a very shoddy existence. When you are born, you do not identify with a piece of land mass and when you die, your identification will again cease to be. Realising how false and immature identification is, is the first step towards a saner world.

By standing up to ignorance and fighting for the values that you believe make this country great--whether you feel you need to fight on foreign soil or right here at home is your own decision!  I honestly think we need to concentrate our efforts here in America--where the national needs seem to be outweighing the need for a "failed foriegn policy" known as the Iraq War!

You love your America, not mine.

You, as a "democrat and liberal", represent only one thing by your statement. You want free love everywhere and love of self. Your love for my country is a failed view of what the real world is. If you don't like the ads turn off the TV and listen to NPR, that'll get your mind set straight, they are fair and balanced, aren't they?
