  1. Sometimes on the inside of a book it'll have the age group or age range. In hardcover books when you first open it on the flap (where it will sometimes/most of the time have have the summary of the book) it will say 'ages 12 up' or something among those lines.

If the book doesn't have an age ranging you can also look on bookstores online like:

    www.chapters.indigo.ca

    www.amazon.com

    www.barnesandnoble.com

    www.borders.com

    etc.

    I hope this helped!! =)

  2. i have never seen a book rating but there are a lot of movie ratings.

I guess different people will rate a book differently, it all depends on what the reader thinks about the book. Movies are straightfoward (most of the time) and you don't need to imagine anything but if you read you can make pictures in your head with the words in the book. that could be a reason why book rating's aren't that common.

  3. Some children's and YA books have age ranges attached to them, though they're difficult to find. You can check Amazon for the reviews -- that will often show an age range.

However, many books don't have ranges. If it's an adult book, it's not going to tell you up front "This book is not for children." That's where parents have to keep their eyes open.
