How can we live the lives that we do, knowing that 18,000 children die everyday from poverty?

And if you dont belive me, its true. Every three seconds, one child in a developing country dies from poverty. Most children in these countries have no parents, some who are as young as 6 or 7 look after their younger brothers and sisters without any support or money. They have to live of rats and garbage. They live in carboard boxes and they dont have any acces to clean water or medical treatment. This wouldnt happen in australia, so why should it happen anywhere? And why are we all ignoring the problem? It just doesnt make sense to me.

  1. i know. sometimes i feel bad when i throw away food someone else would die to have or waste money on a game when someone else could use it for some clothes to survive. it makes me feel bad, but i can't change the world. donating is all i can do, and sometimes i just don't have the cash to do it. life's not fair :(

unfortunately, some ppl with the cash don't feel like donating, but a lot of them do try to help... so we aren't exactly ignoring it, we just can't do it sometimes.

  2. Its sad, but what we don't see or hear we don't comprehend. If it were right out our front door every day, then more people would act.  I live in the country where there isn't much poverty.

  3. Human Stupidity in the focus on war. The Human Right To Peace, The Human Right to own the planet, The Human Right to own and conserve the resources of the planet, The Human Right to a decent standard of living as rights for all citizens in The Constituition of each nation or the equivalent of The Constituition might help. Pressure from citizens as well on Governments

  4. It is indeed an extremely hard nut to swallow but for those of you who are beating yourselves up unnecessarily please think on this If it were not for modern communication methods would we Even be aware of this cruel situation in the first place ? Is it not therefore important to lay the blame on those who in a position to do something about it and are sitting there waiting for people like Mr Geldorf (bless him) to send help in money or kind and are drooling at the mouth in anticipation to hijack the lot and to top it off  with huge armies and bigger salaries attending meetings all over the world and wasting money and doing political & military gymnastics to remain in power and deliberatly playing these poor starving people like pawns to gain more aid for themselves WE ARE SUCKERS for falling for it time and again The morale of the story is THEY the corrupt goverments must BE blamed and shamed and FORCED to do things to help them selves the sooner the better Then I would like to sit up and help as mutch as I can thanks for the good question but I get carried away with this frustrating subject with a feeling of helplessness and anger at such ruthless exploitation of truly inosent people

  5. We aren't ignoring it, stupid people keep sending them food, so they keep multiplying and then 3x as many people are starving.

  6. This horrible problem is caused by brutal dictators like Mugabe, Ahmedinejad and the rest. If we want to save the kids from starvation and misery first we should get rid of the dictators.

  7. Just at a guess, I'm gonna throw this out there and say you have a pretty decent life compared to them too.  I mean, you're able to get on the internet and ask me stupid questions.  You must have some material possessions, why haven't you sold them to feed a couple kids for a few months?  My god are you that heartless?  Don't you realize that for the cost of your monthly internet access you could feed a family in africa?  It's hard to be self-righteous and accuse me of ignoring the problem when its obvious you're a hypocrite.  Or do you send your 10$ a month check to ease your liberal guilt?  Honestly, do you people think when you ask these questions?

  8. Just get over it. If most of the money that was donated wasn't wasted along the way maybe it would make a difference........40 hour famine has been going like 25 years, why has this not solved the problem.......maybe instead of sending money we should put something in the water to control the breeding, after all these people are just emulating nature.......IE: have as many kids as you can and the strongest of the gene pool will survive........Think about that !!!!!
