Question:

How can we make sure our cats get along?

My bf and I will be moving in together soon. He has one cat and I have two. Neither of us is willing to part with our beloved pets and since we love each other and each other's pets we want to be able to keep all three.

We don't know what type of apt we'll have yet, but hopefully it will be something big enough and with at least one closed room.

My cats are pretty easy going, and have lived with other cats before when I had roomates. It always went well. His cat is another story. She's very cuddly and docile but starts pissing everywhere when another cat uses her litter box. We're not scared they'll fight or reproduce (three spayed females!) however, we're concerned about litter box warfare!

What can we do to encourage them to get along and learn to live together in harmony so that we can keep all three of our babies?

Thanks!

  1. Get a seperate litter box for your bfs cat and your cats (: Just make sure they get used to using their own litter box and not the other cats.  I'm sure they'll get along fine!

  2. GO SLOW.

put cat A in one room (or cat carrier) and cats B & C in another one... then let one group loose... let them smell each other under/ through  the door

    then do the opposite group...

when you allow them in the same room MONITOR THEM... talking to them ... calming them and make sure there are not fights.

first put litter boxes ALL OVER... util you see who is using what one.

the one who wants an EXCLUSIVE box will be the hardest problem.

Hopefully someone will have a ans for that.

there is an herbal rememdy called "emotional emergency/ or rescue remedy... You might have to put that in some of thier water!

  3. i have one like that she would be perfect if she were an only cat,but......anyway what i did was used one litter box for the other cats and got her a covered box i put it in the corner away from the other, and when the other cats were not around showed it to her, she is very shy and hiding anyway so it worked out for a while, but i would get a electric one as soon as they are done it cleans the clump that way the scent isnt there

  4. Get seperate litter boxes for one thing.  At least 2.  And keep them in seperate rooms for the first while.  Put each other's bedding or beds (which ever they use most) in each other's rooms and they will slowly get used to the other's smells.  But that doesn't mean they will ever get along.  My older female still hates my younger male and they've been together for 7 years.  She doesn't fight with him, but she hisses and will tolerate his presence very little.  Just make sure you supervise them when you do put them together until you are sure they will not fight.  I would also give them seperate areas that are quiet and calm for them to hide or sleep in.
