I don't think there's much that we can do if parents aren't teaching their kiddies the differences between fantasy/fiction entertainment and reality.  

They'll be back to school in a few weeks, so the number of these "mermaid" questions should decrease.

It is a tad frightening though, to think that these children are our future.

Report the question each time it shows up.

There's one particular person who's trolling away and spamming the board. "Aquamarine" and she has multiple accounts to question, and answer her own. And I very much doubt this person is as young as people think she is. Hopefully the loser will eventually get suspended.

I think the majority of them know it's not real and they are just torturing us with it. I just ignore those kind of questions.

Just ignore it, its not hurting you. If people want to talk about or even believe in mermaids that is their choice
