  1. Airbus aircraft all (except old A300's)have small winglets at the end of the wings.

Some Boeings (737,747,757) have large winglets

The Boeing will be the plane passing the Airbus in the departure pattern...Airbus's are slow...especially 330's.

  2. I have found that:

    (a) Boeings have shorter and more conical nose (like a hawk) as compared to Airbuses. Airbus shows slightly flatter nose (like dolphines).

    (b) Airbuses taper more towards its rear end (the elevators/rudder area) as compared to the Boeings.

    (c) Airbuses have heavier fuselage than Boeings, especially where the central wings are assembled.

  3. look at the side on view of the cockpit windows. that's the easiest way to differentiate boeing from airbus.

  4. At the back of the plane below the tail of each side of the plane, the name of the plane is written there. Some planes also have the Boeing or Airbus name written at the front of the plane, though very small

  5. You can tell from their cockpit window, size of winglets (if they have), and the nose part.

    For example:

    Boeing 777                                      Airbus340

    -no winglets                                     -yes winglets

B777 nose section are fatter compared to the sharper lined A340 nose section.

This is how can tell if it's either a Boeing or an Airbus

  6. The easiest way I have found to tell is to look at the strobe lights on the end of the wings.  The Boeings have a single pulse strobe and the Airbus was a double (two short flashes).

Also, If you look also at the engine cowling... take the 737 vs the A320, the boeing will have a flat cowling on the bottom.

There are a ton of ways to differentiate, but at first it would be easier to look at a picture side by side and after a while you will be able to pick them out fairly easily... but in the short term I think the strobe light is the way to go.

  7. Based on competing Aircraft

Airbus A320; wingtip fence, round engine nacelles and fatter nose...Boeing 737; winglets, flattened engine nacelles to give it higher clearance from the ground cus the plane was originally designed with small engines but when larger engines were to be fitted, Boeing found that the plane would be too low to the ground, so they opted for flatter engine nacelles...and also a sharper, pointier nose.

Airbus A330; longer looking, winglets and the horizontal and vertical stabilizers are a litle bit farther back the fuselage... Boeing 767; shorter looking, also has winglets and the horizontal and vertical stabilizers are more forward on the fuselage like most Boeing planes.

Airbus A340; four engines, winglets similar to the ones on the A330 and 767. The A340-600 models are very long and pencil like... Boeing 777; two very big engines, biggest right now on any commercial aircraft, raked wingtips(it looks like the wingtips are bent backwards rather than upwards like in winglets) and also rounder looking fuselage.

Airbus A380; Four engines, complete double deck, wingtip fences like the ones on the A320, large gulling wings(looking at it from behind, it looks like the wings are flapping and drooping)... Boeing 747; four engines, partial double deck with a hump, winglets like the ones on the A330 and 767.

That should help you tell the difference between Airbus and Boiengs currently in SERVICE with airlines...

  8. I have found as a general rule that Boeing tends to put the landing lights on the wings while Airbus has them retract into the fuselage centre section near the main gear.

B 737 is the one with no doors over the main gear wheels. Be aware though that Embrear has a mini 737. That is of course a bit of a complication.
