Question:

How can we return gifts we did not register for without receipts?

We got married 3 weeks ago and got a lot of things not on our registry, including several Lenox items. We're moving to England from the US, so we didn't register for anything that could not travel with us, and we've been telling relatives about our plans to move for months. Now we have several hundred dollars worth of useless items that we cannot return since we don't have receipts. We don't want to be ungrateful, but we plan on moving to Europe permanently, and we'd never travel with china, which is why we didn't register for it. Any ideas for stores that would accept these things? We thought of trying to sell them on ebay but these items may be too fragile to ship. It's also mainly one family that got us the items, but we don't want to hurt their feelings by asking for receipts.

Thanks.

  1. I got married about a year and a half ago, and we got a lot of things we just could not use. Also, we got like 8 crock pots! So, I know what you're going through. Just be aware that most places will not give you cash back for the items, they will only issue you store credit. But you can try to return things to the stores, and most of them will take them back. I do know at Wal-Mart, if you return something without a reciept, they will ask you for your drivers license and you can only do three items in 6 months. I would just try to return the items, if you dont have any luck -- sell them on e-bay. They have stuff that you can put in the boxes to make sure that they dont get broken. If you dont like that idea, have a yard sale! Get rid of all the stuff that you dont want to take with you on your move and make some extra money too!

  2. goodwill or a charity might need them.

  3. Offer the items on Craigslist for 1/2 the price of new and let the buyer come and get 'em.

  4. if you know where they bought it you can go to the store and ask if you can return it. most will do it with an id if it is theirs. but the worst they will do is say you need an receipt.

  5. You could always exchange them. I know places like Macy's and Bed, Bath, and Beyond will let you exchange things like like and you could get other things that are on your registry.

  6. *NICE GIRL NEEDS TO CHANGE HER NAME TO LOSER GIRL WITH NO LIFE AND I BELIEVE SHE IS A JEALOUS GIRL, THATS WHY SHES IN THE WEDDING SECTION HATING ON OTHERS!!

ANYWHO, if you know where they got the items from( most store you can look up the UPC, and just return it there most people will give you store credit if not just tell them you need to exchange it, they wont get mad and if they do, they would be just as mad if they found out you returned so mine as well as for the receipt.

  7. Maybe you should talk to the people that gave you each item you need to return, and explain (again) why you need to return it.  They might still have the receipt so you could return it, or at least tell you where it is from so you could exchange it for something that is more shippable/you can travel with.

    Good Luck!

  8. I would really try to have to shipped to where you're going to be moving to.  You're going to lose a lot of money on it if you try selling it.

You should go to whichever shipping store is close to you and let them know that you have many lenox items you want to ship, and they are very fragile, They'll let you know how to pack everything so nothing breaks.  Then once you move, have someone that's close to you ship them to you.

  9. Ebay, craigs list, in store credit, charity, and my personal favorite if you know a lot of others getting married REGIFT...as a joke of course. ;)
