How can we rid ourselves of responsibility for a house we surrendered in bankruptcy that was not foreclosed?

In 2005 we filed Chapter 7 and surrendered our home. The lender foreclosed in 2006, and the house was put up for auction by the sheriff, but did not sell (twice). The lender then sold the loan, and the new company tried to force us to make payments, until we told them we had filed bankruptcy. In the meantime we moved out of the house but our lawyer says we must carry homeowners insurance on it and cut the grass, etc. We just want to hand it over to someone!
