Question:

How can we secure a portable DVD player to the dashboard?

My fiance and I have a portable dvd player that we like to take on road trips with us. It's a low-end model, nothing fancy.

I started out with a couple of pieces of velcro to stick the dvd player to the dashboard, but I think there was just too much vibration and it was causing the dvds to skip.

I'm hoping someone has a simple, DIY solution to this. My internet searches haven't come up with anything. We use the dvd player in the home as well, so it can't be affixed permanently to the dashboard.

(I would also like to note that we do make sure that the dvd player does not obstruct the driver's view in any way.)

Thanks for your help!

  1. i do the same thing and it did the same thing, so i moved it to the seat. it worked good there but then i moved it to the transmission hump (still using velcro )in front of the seat. it works ok there, too

  2. If you go to websites for trucker accessaries or even RV accessaries you'll find alot of stuff that may be usefull to your needs however notheing will be listed for the purpose your asking, for abvious reasons. Im a truck driver myself and I see things at truck stops all the time that might work for you. I have an ipod stand that is mounted to a wieghted sand filled ring that has a rubber bottom on it and I set that on my dash board and it has never fallen off. If you could find something that would hold your DVD player and be wieghted with a rubber bottom that might be the way to go. Or if you could make something. Like get a piece of rubber the size of the DVD player and create a sort of pillow ring around it and fill it with something like sand and then set the DVD player into it that might work. It's something I think your going to have to really eaither dig for or be creative and make. There are cheap PC mounts you can by on Ebay the would probably work for the DVD player sense the DVD player is the same basic shape as a Laptop. However Laptop stands usually mount to the floor. Unless, you do what I did and mount it to a board and fix a wieght so it doesnt move. Hope you get some ideas from all that or at least helps. Check RV and trucker websites and/or a good sized truck stop and you may find something that you can use.

  3. I really don't suggest this. It can ruin the dvd player if there is vibration too much, and the driver view is very important and the player would distract you. But i am thinking along the lines of a type of pillow (really small) and velcro.

  4. You may get pulled as you are not supposed to watch TV and drive at the same time, even if it is turned to one side it will be distracting how about fixing it in the back?
