  1. Try to use File & Printer sharing .. and shared file on XP  to remote user...

  2. I have had this problem before.  I think the XP machine simply needs a patch from Microsoft to be up to date with Vistas new detection software.

    After this is installed, if it still doesnt work just go to Start > Help and search for File Sharing, it should be able to walk you through each step on both PCs.

  3. Set up a "share". Click the link below for how to do it step by step.

  4. Are you sure you correctly enabled file sharing on the folder(s) you want to share? Vista does support file sharing, but the security is a royal b*tch to get around.

    Possibly you may need to do so through a router.

  5. vista seems to have quiet a bit of firewall & security by itself.

    So carefully check out the security settings for file sharing &

    Network connections.

    Probably that is what is blocking the actual action.

  6. From network & sharing center turn on network discovery and file sharing on the Vista computer, and make sure you have shared the files

  7. Hi,

    Firstly before it will file share then you need to setup a network.

    You can do this by going on the xp machine and then clicking;

    start

    my computer

    in the left hand navigation click my network places

    again in the left hand navigation click setup a home or small office network, follow the wizard and leave everything as default.

    Then you need to setup a network on the vista machine now i'm not sure how to do this but i think you have to go to network and sharing centre or something like that, then find the properties and change the network name to MSHOME the same as it should be on the xp machine. The network is then setup, you need to restart both pc's.

    Next you need to start sharing files, on the xp machine click;

    start

    my documents

    then create a new folder and call it what you like

    then right click the new folder and click sharing

    give it a name and click ok, the folder is then shared on the network

    The steps should be the same on the vista machine.

    Now that you have a folder shared you need to connect to it on the other pc so for example if you are sharing the folder on vista, then on the xp machine click;

    start

    my network places

    then in the left hand navigation click view network pc's, this will show the pc with the shared folder on it, double click the icon and in the screen what opens then you will see the shared folder, right click the folder and click map network drive, this will place a shortcut in my computer to allow you to acces it easily.

    Now to connect to a shared  folder on vista then you need to click;

    start

    network

    then view full network map, again it will show the other pc, double click on it and it will show the shared folder, right click it, map network drive and so again there will be a shortcut placed in my computer.
