How can we stop global deforestation?

Question

Deforestation is the clearing of land either for land use or for the trees/timber value itself. In my view it is the Number 1 reason for climatic change.

How can ordinary people who live in non forested areas, change the way greedy people and wealthy people in power act upon the earth's remaining forests? There is also the problem of poor people having no choice but to deforest these areas, how can we change that in the short term?What about Reforestation, can we implement that too?How?

The worst example is in the Amazon rain forest and it is government backed. Maybe withhold aid and money until they stop clear cutting for natives.

I don't think we will ever stop harvesting trees for their various uses. However good logging companies follow the restrictions placed on them by the government. Trees are a renewable resource (renew over the course of our lives) therefore a forest can grow back. If the trees are not stripped bare the forest has a chance to rejuvinate properly. However when we're talking about global deforestation you have to take in account that politics and poverty play a huge role in things like our declining rainforests. In S. America for example they use slash and burn techniques which destroy the forest and do not allow them to rejuvinate. Unless the people who do this are provided with another way of making money or the government imposes restrictions, well ending deforestation proves to be difficult. There are plenty of groups out there, I bet you can do a google search and learn even more from their perspectives--the one's who do the dirty work.

For our paper products find or genetically alter a plant (maybe using bamboo genes) to become a fast growing tree and just farm the c**p out of it.

For construction materials and for heating in third world nations there is little alternatives but local plants.  Also forests are being cut down for farming.

The only true solution for this problem (and all environmentally related problems) is population control.

Yes s they too are contributing to the  enviroment being destroyed !?! ;-,{  Use more of that supposed newly developed [space-age c**p]or material that's been said to be impressivly durable to make stuff with !!?!!.. We do use certain metals,substances or materials to make things better,longer~lasting,easier to use or work with!?! so on & so`forth!?! "Ordinary people" who live in non-forested areas in a lot of cases are there because these evil people have cleared the land already for them. How about hugging a tree.

Pass laws to stop it,, stop buying imported wood,we have plenty here..need to manage what we have..we have untold amount of wood  going to waste thanks to our FUMBLING GOVERNMENT  plant trees
