  1. It will be up in 2008.  Be very careful who will be voting on it.

And put the Senate switchboard on speed dial.

  2. Is this one of those sarcastic questions? You don't really think any one can stop NAFTA?

  3. We the people cannot stop it. If you havent noticed already, our government no longer works for us, but for thier own interests and the highest bidder, so we the people demanding them to stop really wont do a darn thing, look at all the other things the majority of Americans have stated disaproval for or plainly state that they do not want? The Govmt. goes and does it anyway, regardless. The only way to stop it, and we are told to do so in the Constitution and bill of rights, is to purge a govmt system that no longer serves and protects the interests of the people that they are supposed to be answerable to, and re-establish the govmt as it was meant to be in the original idea of the USA. It is actually our duty and responsibility as US citizens to do this, read it for yourself. If we choose not to, then we get what we deserve for our inaction.

  4. When will American see we do not live in a Democracy but a complete sell out of the workers and all who do not have a Billion Dollars to buy votes. Wake up America, this has been going on for many years, look at our history a government  By Big Business for Big Business. Every year more rights get lost.

  5. Vote the Republicans and their neo-liberal "fair" trade policies out of office.

  6. If the leaders of american industry want to be real american companies, they will keep jobs here.  If their goal is just to maximize their own profits, they will hire cheap workers in other countries, whether or not NAFTA exists.

  7. National Public Radio had a show about rethinking NAFTA the other day.  I didn't get to hear it as I had to quit driving and turn off the radio.  You could go to their website and see what they are reporting.

  8. NAFTA is here so a bit late to stop. We need to worry about stopping the NAU

  9. You can't stop NAFTA.

The middle class is not being "destroyed".

There is more than one source of information than Lou Dobbs.  Never forget Lou is trying to sell his books and sell advertising for CNN.  He will always push fear because fear generates ratings.

The United States is going through an economic transformation similar to the one of 100 years ago, when millions of farm labourers lost their jobs and were forced to move into the cities.  The US transformed from regional power to superpower in that time.

Now industrial jobs are giving way to jobs in the information and service sector of the economy.

Making cars and mining coal is not how a superpower is going to drive its economy in the 21 Century.  That is the job best left to China, Mexico and Korea.

Americans need to be developing Banking, Insurance, software, biotechnologies and other forms of high tech unavailable to the developing world.  It means Americans have to embrace math and science to make their way in the modern world.

If you play their game, you lose.   They can work harder and cheaper.  Play to your strengths, even if it means leaving the comfort zone of the familiar.

or thik of it like this:

When a man is 20 he can work 18 hour days to get ahead building houses or digging coal.

But by the time he is 40 he should own his own company or at least be in charge of a group of young dudes doing the heavy lifting,  or else he will lose his health and his chance for future security

If North America does not move forward on the technological front, someone else will and THEN the US will fall behind and losses in the middle class will become real.
