How can we take care of earthworms as pets?

My four-year-old has become attached to a group of worms she found in the yard.

  1. You have to walk them on a leash ever day. It is going to demand patience on your part-----and a very small leash.


  2. You can get a whole bunch to live in a giant tub - a tub which is kind of like a compost heap but isn't. The worms will eventually break the stuff down - but one word of warning. The worms don't like the heat. As you know, rotting stuff gives of heat, and my sister who had a truckful of worms found they kept trying to escape until she let some cool air into the tub. Hope this helps.

  3. Buy a small plastic turarium, and put some good soil. Try to put a little bit of ants and grass in there. Keep it in the dark so they dont dry up. But that's very cute that your daughter is interested in the worms!
