Question:

How can we watch TV if there is no cable service available and we cannot get a dish?

Are there any other options? I didn't know this was possible in our area. It's not a rural area, its just outside a small city, which is about an hour away from a very major city.

There is cable service available within a mile but not down the road we are moving to. The houses there have about 4 wooded acres each on the north side of a large hill, so apparently we will be unable to get a dish also, because we don't have a clear view of the southern sky.

They are unlikely to run cable down through there because there aren't enough houses on that particular road to justify it.

I don't think we can live without the TV!! (Of course we can, but we love our shows that we follow.)

Are there any other options out there for us? We live in south central PA.

  1. Go to a place taht sells tv's and buy sum dishes while ur at it :P

  2. try checking your local yellow pages and contacting different compaines, you are bound to find something. what about direct TV? or maybe just using an antenna for local channels.

  3. Get the kind of antenna you need for where you live.  Find out here by using the choose an antenna button on this site:

    http://www.antennaweb.org

Just pay attention to the distance from the stations because I have yet to see an antenna with these color codes on the box.

Be sure to get a converter box if you do not have a TV with a digital (ATSC) tuner and only have a TV with an analog (NTSC) tuner.

  4. you can buy an antana from ur local wal-mart or something

  5. One option that might be worth looking into if there are a good number of residents similarly affected is to get together to have a repeater set up on top of the mountain. You could also talk to Dish or Direct TV to see if they have any options that might work in your area.

Another alternative would be to put a TV aerial on one of the tallest  trees to see if you can pick up an over-the-air broadcast signal. If you do this, you'll likely need some kind of signal booster as you will have a long cable run.

  6. Do you USE Verizon for phone service? If so, check and see if they have FIOS in operation there....

Why don't you and your neighbors Petition the Cable company for service, and if that doesn't work contact your County Commissioners, because THEY contracted with the Cable company to provide service to all the County landowners....if they can't deliver, the cable company may be in violation of their LEASE.....

Yeah the commissioners leased their county back in the late 70's to the cable company.....

  7. you have a computer dont you...

just watch tv on the computer...

if not good old pair of rabbit ears... or... buy i a bord game.. family fun time (:

  8. I'm in California, so im not familiar with your area. but if worse comes to worse , a pair of rabbit ears is your last resort.

  9. In some areas non-cable companys route tv through the phone line. Contact your phone service provider for more options

  10. Buy a cheap outdoor antenna, place it on a pole outside and hook it to your t.v. It's more than likely that you'll catch a few channels.

  11. I just bought a new TV with DTV capabilities. I bought a 50db tv antenna, and we pick up digital and analog shows all the way from Los Angeles with it.....about 45 miles away.

I don't have cable or dish...these are just local channels.

Either that, or get internet and watch your shows online.

  12. It's called an antenna

  13. haha if anything get those rabbit ear thingys
