  1. My neighbor has one, and says it does save him money. Living on the water the thing is always cranking

  2. That is my dream to get either a windmill or a water wheel to power an electric source.   I hear the local electric companies have to buy back your excess electricity.   I really want to do that someday.

  3. there are several small scale household modals. most still use conventional horizontal axis turbines however there's a company in the Netherlands that makes the TURBY a small vertical axis micro turbine that is designed for roof tops. Its very efficient small and light and quiet. Its rated for 2.5kw at 14m/s wind speed. they sell for 12k euros however I saw one demoed a while back and stole the design and built some myself. If your good with tools you can build it for under a grand.  I'm in the process of putting 3 on my shop roof with possibly 3 more in the spring.

  4. it is feasible, there are windmills for private use available.

I once did a google search for them, and found several, however it would depend on how much wind you get, and what your electric company charges, whether they would be economical.

  5. There are compact spiral systems on the market that can be placed on a rooftop or backyard of a typical single family home.  I once lived in house in the Southern California urbanized area that had one installed and it supplied about half   of our electricity.  You might want to check with your local home improvement store to see if they or available in your area.

  6. they can´t unless you live in a very remote area and an excess price to connect to the grid would justify a small windmill.

Wind power is economically viable due to the large scale of modern wind turbine: 5MW... rotors of over 80m diameter and a cost of 2-5 million USD.

This is definitely not suited for a household.

  7. First you have to know how much power you will need, then how ofen you have  enough wind, then go to http://www.Pacwind.net and get what you need.

Did I just do a shameless plug?
