Question:

How can women who are not socially conservative support Governor Palin?

I truly don't understand how republican women who are not extremely conservative can vote for a woman who does not believe in choice to terminate the pregnancy in the cases of incest and rape, who does not believe in birth control, who believes in teaching creationism, and who believes in shooting wolves from planes.

Honestly, she really believes that the government should have no control over guns but control over women's wombs?

  1. People place different relative priorities on their values.     For some, it's more important to a female vice president.  For others, they're more concerned about keeping abortion federally protected.

NRA members vote in lockstep for the candidate that is pro-gun, even if they disagree on other issues.    This makes the NRA a powerful group and they are well represented in Congress. (There are more NRA members than women in Congress!)

  2. They can support her because a lot of these issues that you mentioned aren't major issues in this election. People are more worried about the economy, national security and Iraq, than they are about s*x education in high schools right now. Of course they are all important, but they aren't most people's deciding factors in this election.

  3. I would be less concerned about who McCain would side with on an issue, and more concerned about who would be in charge of the country should something happen to him. I knew little of her prior to the nomination (like most), and I feel that they are strategically avoiding those extreme issues that would turn off most independent or "middle ground" (especially female) voters so they can appeal to them. While I care little for extremist views in either direction, I have more concern for extreme right views... they always seem to harbor a tone of being unenlightened to me (vs. extreme left views which usually just feel impractically idealistic.)

  4. I don't understand how liberals are NOT supporting her considering that she's a working mother. It amazes me how against her you all are. It amazes me how nasty you've been to her daughter about her pregnancy.

I am a Republican who IS pro-choice, but I know that no President and certainly no Vice President can change Roe v Wade. Only the Supreme Court can do that. Sure, the President appoints justices to the high court but only if there's a vacancy and, as President Bush discovered, the people you appoint don't always vote the way you'd like. Moreover, I don't honestly think that, even if the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade, that abortion would become illegal. I don't think congress would allow it nor do I think women would. It's really a non-issue in this election.

That said, I don't necessarily think that women who are raped have to have an abortion. That child can be the only light in an otherwise horrendous experience.

  5. the executive branch of government does not make laws.  That's the duty of our congress.  So exactly how does Palin's personal beliefs affect you?

Are you silly enough to think she is going to personally re-write all the laws she doesn't like and then make them offical?

If we all waited for a candidate that we can agree with 100%, none of us would ever vote.

I happen to think Palin is great!  Do I agree with all her views, no, but she's a heck of a lot better than what the Dems offered.

  6. The same way that women who were not socially liberal could support Hillary. There are some people that just want a woman in office regardless of her views.

  7. Your  failure to understand and appreciate her appeal is normal.

People who operate on an emotional rather than a rational level frequently feel that way.

  8. McChick is the answer to conservatives prayer, we can actually vote for McCain in the hopes that he will pass of natural causes and McChick will run the country.  She's a pit bull with lipstick not a brain washed libby D like Billary!

  9. vote

  10. They dont support her!

  11. I agree and think she is the worst woman possible to have on either ticket.  She is like one of the woman who openly campained againist the suffarage movement....

  12. If it makes you feel better Cindy McCain is not nearly as conservative as Palin.  When it comes down to it, who do you think he will side with?

  13. Haven't you just defined conservative?

  14. Because abortion is not the only issue, and they probably agree with much more, like taxes, freedom, the size of government, etc.

By the way...Have you ever considered that the issue isn't about controlling a woman's womb, but protecting the life inside?  I think if abortion were made illegal or restricted, more women may try to prevent pregnancy rather than use abortion as birth control (I'm not talking about the very rare cases of incest and rape).

They do believe in gun control too, but think that law-abiding people who apply for a gun permit have the right to own guns, hunt, and defend themselves.

It's obvious that "feminists" aren't looking out for all women, just the ones that fit their mold.  I think that Palin is a true feminist, and lives her feminism rather than complain.

  15. It's mind boggling, I know.
