How can you apply foundation so that it lasts all day?

Question

By the end of the day my skin looks the same as it does in the morning- a mess! Every day I notice people with flawless foundation 24/7! Is there some sort of trick? Or is it simply the brand you use? Do I need base-coat? Any Tips Welcome.

I have been using Bare Minerals for over a year now and I must say that I adore it.  It lasts the entire day; looks so natural and dewy. It has even helped correct many of the imperfections of my skin (acne, oilness). OK so I have been wearing foundation for years.  I've tried many different kinds to see which one lasts the longest and feels the best on my skin.  So I love the one I use now and it's probably the best, it's called dream matte mousse by maybelline.  It goes on smoothly and it stays all day.  After I apply it I use a concealer if I need it and then I use powder.  It's not expensive and it works great.  I hope this helps!  Good luck!

Use a primer :) It helps the foundation stick to the skin longer.

You would want to look at the higher-end primers.. like MAC has a great one, and you can find some great ones at sephora.

Then once you've applied the foundation, you will want to set it with a loose powder and blush brush of some sort.

Estee lauder double wear is the best. it lasts all day.

Start off with your regular liquid or cream foundation and apply a light brushing of tone matched or translucent powder and/or cornstarch.

I used to have the same problem. Before applying makeup there is a certain spray MAC sell you can use after washing your face. It keeps your makeup from spreading and actually makes it last the whole day. It also depends on the brand. Try using loose powders. I highly recommend Sorme light reflecting mineral powder. It leaves my skin looking flawless the whole day. Plus it doesn't contain all those harsh chemicals.

Application doesnt have much to do with it, but using a primer like the previous person said and a long lasting foundation (Revlon Colorstay and Estee Lauder Double Wear) helps a lot.
