How can you attach a trailer to a bike if you don't have the original attachment it came with?

I was looking into getting a children's trailer for my bike to use for groceries and the occasional joy-ride for my dog. We have one but we don't have the thing you were supposed to put on the bike and attach the trailer to. It was on my dad's bike a few years ago right when it got stolen. Is it possible to attach it securely in any other way? We've asked at a local bike shop and they don't sell just the bolt.

  1. Do you know what brand it is?  You can go to the companies website and request replacement parts.  I was able to get one for mine easily.

  2. Have you considered contacting the company that makes the trailer?  They usually keep stuff like that in supply -- sometimes they'll even send it to you no charge.

  3. You can get a bolt at the hardware store! Duct tape works for just about anything!
