  1. I kill the monitor brightness and contrast just enough so there is almost no light emitting from the monitor.  I have found over the past years you will save your eyes from tiresome straining often if you turn the brightness/some contrast down *watching TV in the dark ring any bells?*.  The only drawback is that we have to turn it all up again for videos or games.

Lights on externally from the computer helps so extra eye strain is not being incurred.

  2. Drink water to moisten them and look at far objects to rest your eyes.  There are computer glasses on the internet that reduce glare, can go to a prescription place too.

Polycarbonate lens protects against uv, there is some uv from fluorescent lights.

  3. There is a few things that you can do to help you cope with the strain. Take regular breaks even if it is only to look up for 30 seconds, that relieves the strain that you put o your eyes to keep them focused up close. The best is to get up every 30 minutes en walk around, your eyes relax and you get your blood flowing again. You can also check that your screen is at least an arms lenght away from you and if you reach out that you can touch the top part of your screen, thus looking slightly down on the screen. The other option would be to visit your local optom and have a pair of reading glasses made that can do all the relaxing for you. In my experience that works better because you forget after the first few hours to take your breaks.

  4. where glasses...even if you think you dont need them get them..they will help you in the long run

  5. Angle your monitor.  Work in a well lit area.  Sit up straight.  They say you should take a break every 15 minutes from staring at the screen.  if you wear contacts, wear glasses.  If you are straining to see the words on your screen, go to your fonts setting and make them larger.  Use eye drops.  At night, put a cold compress on your eyes to make them feel rejuvinated.
