  1. Because it is so tasty.

Seriously though unless you live in a cave in the woods living off twigs and berries, there is always something more you can do.  Do anything to reduce your environmental impact is better than doing nothing. Some folks are just willing to go farther than others.

  2. I only eat free range, hormone free, cruelty free, etc.  I know where it comes from and it is local.  I feel good about that.

There are tons of vegetarians that eat produce from all over the world.  You don't know who picked it, grew it, etc.  That and think about the carbon footprint of that banana before you eat it.

    Eat local!

  3. Because I like to hunt

  4. I have eaten meat since I was a child. My body is designed to eat and digest meat. I can be concerned about the environment and still eat meat. Of course people eat more meat now than they did in the fifties and sixties, when mass production of cattle came into being as an industry. Before that, people ate meat twice a week. Such indiscriminate breeding required chemical help, so cattle got hormones, cement powder and God knows what else. The meat we eat now is nowhere near what people ate over fifty years ago.

We have been led to believe we need to eat meat every day. That is not so. I don't eat meat every day.

  5. by concerned about the environment people are mostly talking about global warming. -which eating meat is not very relevent to. yes, farming does contribute to green house gas emitions but marginally so. that should be the last thing on the list to cut down emissons.

Besides, we are biologically designed to eat meat. protien is essential to humans- espcially teenagers and children.

Animal cruelty is another serious issue that is not related to the environment. perhaps you should revise the point of your question. Otherwise i hope i answered it

    have a nice day!

  6. Love meat and could care less about much else, unless it has a direct and negative impact to my life.  Use and consume as much as you can and let tomorrow take care of itself.

  7. Because I'm a male, 6' 2", 190 pounds, and I could eat lettuce all day and never get full. Its always little 90 pound girls scolding people about why we shouldnt eat meat. I wouldn't have enough energy to walk up a flight of stairs if I didnt eat meat.

  8. Because if we don't they will overpopulate and starve to death. Not too humane.

We are omnivores. We are meant to eat meat. While we don't HAVE to, we are built to.

What does animals have to do with pollution?

  9. My Delaware ancestors had a view that when there is too little pasture to sustain the deer and other herbivores, it is our duty to reduce the number of herbivores to prevent a major collapse of both the herbivore populations and the pasture itself.

It only made sense to eat the herbivores thus harvested. Over a period of time it was observed that we had to harvest a fairly significant part of the herd each year... after taking into account killing by wolf and panther, loss to disease.

But the criteria for how many need be harvested was the amount of pasture uneaten when fall came.

If pastures were extremely high, it had to be that too many deer had died, whether by animal kill, our kill, or disease. No matter what had been the cause, it became  necessary to protect the deer population by killing wolf, and eating them.

The objective was not to  eliminate wolves, merely to limit their numbers so as to not have them eliminate the deer.

This was a matter of ecological wisdom rather than any dogmatic position.

In today's environment we would not wish to see the population of cattle eradicated, but we also would not like to have them invade all our crops and leave us with nothing to eat. It has to be a balance, respecting a balance of nature that contrary to folklore will not remain in balance, but will swing wildly if we do not impose some management.

  10. Well I still eat meat, but I only eat organic, well raised animals, and dont eat it all the time. I have reduced my intake.

Meat can still exsit to be cocered about the enviroment but we see how the animals are being treated and how they are being feed and how enviromentally friendly the methods used to keep the animals healthy are.

  11. Because I'm an omnivore.

  12. That's two different things. I eat meat for the proteins, for the minerals and vitamins in it. Also the body requires it. I was raised with meat. As vegetarian, you still eat chicken and fish. For only salad and pasta, you're missing all what meat gives you for your blood... As for the environment, the beef, chicken, lamb, rabbit, deer, etc... are well praised for the above mentioned, it brings. It is vital to eat meat for blood and bone marrow.

Vegetarians were also brought with meat  and give it up.

This reminds me that the x-smokers that now are allergic to smoke...

All those things, come and go as the trend of each 10 yrs!!!

  13. Because it's tasty.

  14. I can't, I became a vegetarian several years ago, and it seems every day I learn a another reason it was a wonderful reason. Not only for myself, but for animals, and the planet =)

  15. there are following reasons why we can eat meat and still be environmentalist

    1. Our body needs meat as we are omnivores, our diet needs to be consist of both vegetables and meat.

    2. While we are eating meat it doesnt mean that we are destroying environment, needs has to be fulfilled but expolitation of resources are not allowed.

    3. The paper you are showing although has quite full highlighted the environmental cost of meat, but same problems exist for agriculture also. theories says that tropical rain forest was cleared for agricuture purposes in hope that soil will be rich in nutirent.

    4. Agiruclture is more dependent on climate, particulalry people living in desert areas or people who are nomads have to rely on meat for their food.

  16. because meat digested and goes down,

is good fertilizer for the environment

    but lets moderate meat consumption

    cheerio !
