  1. Can you please flag the spam answer that contains just a web link? Some of them are phising web sites and they can actually infect your pc! There is a "yahoo-video" one that installs malware on your system, it claims that you have the "wrong codec" so be aware of that one as well...

... If I was optimistic about that spam, then I would have clicked on it myself! You need to know exactly why and what you are feeling pessimistic about, because there is usually a good reason.

  2. Well u cant... If u are, u are...

  3. Mind control.  Every time you become aware of where its taking you, by what you are thinking, ask yourself, do I want to go in this direction?  If your answer is no, change the direction (thoughts).  The direction being happy or sad, good or bad, etc.

Get in the driving seat, so as to speak...Your mind is really where it is all happening.  What controls your mind, controls you.

Remember the glass of water.... is it half empty or half full?

The same with your mind.... are my thoughts happy or sad. heavy or light etc. and change or modify what you do not like.

    Have a great day!

  4. For most people optimism is found in what used to be called the "liberal arts." Not the liberal arts of today, which has an agenda, but the Renaissance Liberal Arts, consisting of the Trivium (The first three disciplines in the mediaeval, educational system of seven liberal arts. The trivium includes grammar, rhetoric and dialectic,)  and the Quadrivium (The second, and more advanced group of liberal arts studies in the middle ages, arithmetic, geometry, astronomy and music.) http://www.ditext.com/runes/index.html

These studies led to the great ideas that gave us democracy, freedom of religion, rule of law in the form of Locke's "common sovereignty," the American's abstraction of "individual sovereignty," free speech, etc.

The Founders were Deists, basically Naturalists who said the laws of nature must have been created by God; as contrasted with the classical Naturalists who say existence is a self-sufficient primary and has no need of the supernatural.

Either way, optimism comes from a better education of history. One of the great optimists of modern science was the writer Loren Eiseley http://www.eiseley.org/ http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/author...

I don't know how much of the Liberal Arts he was familiar with, but he certainly knew a lot of history--history of many things. Knowing history (which is what the Liberal Arts teach) is the greatest means of dispelling pessimism, because you come to see that things have been worse, and the world goes 'round and 'round anyway.

  5. Optimism is not a tradable product that can be acquired. One has to be optimisti or must try to be optimistic. Yes, the way someone posted a quotation----very good, you have to rub the dark side to make it brighter. You need that will-force or mental strength to make you optimistic.

  6. By letting go of all the negative energy

  7.   i totally agree with 6of us.

Life is mainly dull;but every now-and-then we reach-the-heights,so to speak.

So, i think you are(definately)posing the wrong question(!).

You should ask,"how can we be optimistic,in this strange and usually "unreasonable" world?

And each person should ask-though,NOT CONTINUALY- how can i be a  little more optimistic,(thus helping myself and others at the same time)?

Also, for me and others, since the last century we now have the work of karl Popper to,possibly, aid us.I mean the....CRITICAL work and "open-ness" which this late(departed)scholar devoted his life to.

He showed that we are still in a "closed"society;but we should take heart from the fact that their is some optimism and open-ness and (some)critical realism all around.

He also said such things like its OUR Duty to be Optimistic;he didnt say because-of-our-stunningly-beautiful-litt... he like millions of others knew of its beauty, and would probably agree with the statement above.(and he lived and worked amoungst our so-called academic teachers;thus..he knew...that he was not-i repeat-Was Not working with true Optimists!!Honestly!).

  8. Keep this quote in mind :

If you can't see the bright side of life, polish the dull side.

  9. Since I have never been optimistic in my life due to the negativity that's around me, I guess I can be more optimistic by keeping my head up high and not let anything or anyone ruin my dreams of becoming the best in the world.

  10. You shouldn't try to be optimistic...

You just become it... if good things happen to you...

Faking optimism is horrible... it ignores all logic just to be happy

  11. realize pessimism doesn't get you anything you truly want.  Thats how I did it at least.

  12. I think your best way to become more optimistic is to consciously work on saying positive thoughts to yourself and out loud.  Like, wake up in the morning and before you get out of bed say to yourself, "This is going to be a great day! I am going to be so productive, and accomplish many of my goals.  I am grateful and thankful for all the wonderful people and things in my life, and I want to seize this day, and experience great things."   You don't have to say those exact words, but say only positive things that relate to your world.

This is along the concepts of the law of attraction, like in the book The Secret.  Which if you have not read it, I highly suggest you to.  It also show you how by saying something like - "No more negativity" - you are actually welcoming more negative thoughts into your mind. You must reword this to say, "Only Positive Good Thoughts!" That will encourage positive, good thought to enter your mind.

Once you really have a handle of this concept you will start to notice how negative other people are, and how they say things in a negative context. And although most people will not want you to correct them, you should tell yourself the flip side of how you can make their statements more positive.

Also, once you clear out all that negativity, I think you will find that inner happiness you were born with, and you can let it shine and fill your life with such joy!

    Thanks for reading!

  13. Find the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel. Once the future looks bright, the present will light up like a christmas tree.

  14. I think what is more important is not just being optimistic, it is rather the ability to influence the future on the one hand, and on the other, be able to accept and move forward irrespective of how the future eventually pans out. Both the abilities to influence the future and accept what eventually comes are better served, in my view, through a realistic frame of mind rather than highly optimistic one.
