  1. It's easy to see people's true character and see what kind of a person they are. Put them in a sparring match and see how they act.

  2. you can never be 100% sure.

  3. no one can tell what is in anothers heart or mind, you can only judge by peoples actions.

  4. It is a teacher's responsibility to provide information and assistance to willing students.

It is the responsibility of one's parents to teach a child morality and responsibility.

A teacher can not be expected to recognise "impure" motives in a student.  If a teacher happens to it would be unethical to continue the lesson.

Bottom line you can't "be sure" of anything.  There are many dishonest and corrupt people that seem genuine and sincere.  A teacher should only be "blamed" if they knowingly teach a pupil whom has malicious intent.

  5. There is no real  way to tell.  Some schools only accept students they feel with fit in and won't cause trouble. If it becomes a concern talk with the student(if a child with both the child and parent.)

  6. Ignore what they say watch what they do.Actions speak the truth.

By actions I mean in situations where they have no time to plan or put up a false front.Sparring is one way.Watch how they are with those younger weaker or of lower rank or different race or life style.

But even after all that you cant really know. That is why the old masters never had more than 4 or 5 students at one time some never had more than 10 during their whole teaching years.

  7. That is not your choice to make, unfortunately.

As a teacher, your job is to teach not just the martial art skills, but the principles of using them as well. It's important to make it clear that martial arts is for self-defense first and foremost.

Whether you do that through lecture, or some other form of teaching, the number 1 priority you should be teaching your students (not so much as an instructor) but as a mentor (to younger students) is that the world doesn't need any more violence.

The reason that they're learning martial arts in the first place is to protect themselves from danger, not to cause it.

But in the end, it's their job to accept what you teach them and habituate your teachings.
