They are nurses. Normally, insurance companies farm out the exams to companies like Exam One, Paramed, etc. I don't know of any insurance companies that contract individuals to do the exam, but I'm sure they're out there. If you really want to be an examiner, talk to one of the companies mentioned above about what qualifications you would need to get hired.
