  1. Contact your local congressman as Air Force officers must be commissioned by a congressman..

    You will need to become an Air Force Officer first.  You will need to attend college, usually the Air Force Academy.

  2. No, you need to get a college degree to do any kind of flying for the airforce or navy.  Only the army offers helicopter training without a college degree.  Best way to get on track is to get a college degree.  Don't worry about getting a bunch of pilot ratings.  The most I would get would be your private.  The airforce wants to teach you there way of flying so it is almost better to tell them that you don't have any piloting expeirnce.  The program is tough and it is pretty much all negative re-enforcement.  You do have to serve 9 years with the airforce if you are a pilot.

  3. I dont think its possible. The right path would be to ask an airforce recruiter or go to an aviation school

  4. Wow.  All kinds of inaccurate and just plain wrong advice here.

    Short answer is:  You can't.

    You need a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.

    Be accepted into and complete a commissioning program

    Be accepted into and complete pilot training.  Currently the service commitment is ten years AFTER graduation.  Training runs about 15month altogether.

    Three ways to do this;

    1- the Academy.  Need outstanding grades, good record of participation in extracurricular activities.  Recommendation from your Congressperson/or senior officers would help.

    2- ROTC.  Most common way.  Sign up like any college class.

    3- Officer Training School.  Apply within one year of college graduation.   Yes AF recruiters DO recruit officers, they have guys/gals who specifically work OTS...

    Right now the best things one can do, are exactly as mentioned above:

    - Stay engaged and get great grades

    - Stay out of trouble

    - Get involved:  Civil Air Patrol and/or JROTC are seen as very positive attributes on a application for Academy, ROTC or OTS.  Civil Air Patrol's a great way to get some free flying too.

    -  If you can afford it at all start flying lessons.  A private pilot's license is a huge plus for your Pilot Training package.  Almost as good:  glider license, student license, and copies of your logbook (to document your flying experience).  Statistically, students who enter  pilot training with civilian experience, have a much lower washout rate-and have higher class rankings.

    - Get or stay in shape.  Military flying is mentally and physically demanding.

    - Read up on aviation, specifically military aviation.  Military History is also useful.

    Any other questions, please PM me

    PS:  Officers are commissioned by the President of the United States, NOT Congress.  Congress, specifically the Senate ratifies the list of officers receiving Regular Commissions.

    EDIT:  Oh, and to head off even more bad gouge, you do NOT need 20/20 uncorrected vision.  Right now its' 20/70 correctable 20/20 or better.  No astigmatism, colorblindness or nightblindness.

  5. No way.  You need to go through Air Force ROTC in college or through the Air Force Academy.  All US military flight officers are college graduates.

  6. Under the RAF and the Colmmonwealth systems, one can apply for the air force straight out of high school. In fact, this was the preferred mode. You need to complete your high school with the required subjects and be in good health. The recruiting offices close to your area would be the best place to viisit. They will advise you of the coming courses and the current requirements. Initial screening, tests and medicals are all carried out at these offices. They are helpful and will guide you correctly.

  7. Air Force and Navy (military) pilot program is probably the MOST difficult program (college) that is out there.  Here are the steps

    (1) get great scores in HS

    (2) stay out of trouble (no underage drinking, etc.)

    (3) get a commission (recommendation) from a U.S. congressman

    (4) get accepted to AF/Navy program

    (5) study hard

    (6) graduate

    (7) fly

    (8) be happy.

    Only officers become pilots.  And only college grads become officers.  The competition to become AF/Navy pilot is fearce.

    Talk to you school guidance counselors.  They should know better.

    ===

    Don't go to military recruiters.  They don't recruit officers.  Officers are COMMISSIONED by congressmen (YES THE FEDERAL US CONGRESS)

    Good Luck...
