  1. In the poem, "On killing a tree,"

Gieve Patel makes it very clear a tree is a living thing. Trees stand firm with the growth of their roots, they stand strong with their thick layers of bark, their branches give the wind something to move, and with these, among other traits, they live. To cut down a tree, is a grievous event; it is like cutting down a building built by nature itself. When we cut down trees, in someways, we are really cutting down nature. That's why I think killing a tree is a subject that aspires awareness.

In its death, such a pitiful thing, we acquire many of our daily essentials. Gieve Patel...What an ode to trees.

Maybe now you will have a better idea of where to start?

  2. The summary is right there in front of you in the poem. You just have to write it down as prose.
