How can you build a small cottage?

i've always wanted a tree house but never made one. how can you make a simple cottage... nothing big.... just one room....

  1. Check at your local public library - most have books on building cottages (and, yes, treehouses) complete with plans, materials lists, and costs.

    Also check with your municipal government. Building a cottage may require approval from Planning & Development, and they may require that you get a permit and pay for an inspection to ensure the cottage isn't too close to the property line. (This costs money, but if you don't you can end up paying more in the long run. You don't need the municipality to order you to tear it down a day or two after you finish it.)


  2. Maybe buy an old container from a cargo ship and cut holes into it for windows and doors. Set some parquet, some plaster walls, electrical sockets and go.
