I'm trying to build a couple of wooden boxes, that when you step on them, LED lights will shine upwards. The goal is for them to be durable and relatively inexpensive to make.

  1. depending on your planned use,you can just buy the l.e.d.s at a local auto parts store and play with them from there the cheep way.

you could drill holes to place the lights in and use a router to cut a path for the wire,a power source will be needed too .

Get a bundle of LEDs (should be cheap), wire

them up in series (or parallel), to the required

battery voltage and connect it to a step-on switch.
