I want to take a 1200 mile trip(mileage one way)I was debating between flying and driving. I would prefer to drive because that to me is just more fun. But was wondering how I could calculate the amount money in gas I would have to save. The vehicle is a 2004 Lincoln LS V8. When I have filled it up before it is about an 18 gallon tank. It is supreme gas so about $3.60- $3.75 a gal. Is there a way to figure how far a tank will take me to get a kinda Idea on how much it's gonna cost in fuel. I don't want to break the bank on gas alone. All answers are helpful. Thanks!

  1. First, you should know your mpg.  According to the website I located, and listed as my source, your vehicle will achieve 24 mpg on highways.  Divide that into your miles.  1200mi/24mpg = 50 gallons.  50 gallons * $4.00/gallon (you're not at home, count on a little more on the highway), and you have $200 for the one way drive.

Twelve Hundred miles is a VERY difficult one day drive.  With two drivers, gas stops, food stops, rest stops, bathroom stops, you're talking about 21 hours.  I've done it when I was young ... but we started at 7 AM and finally stopped at 4 AM the next day.  I wouldn't do it again.  This is a good TWO day drive (a very long two days).

  2. well..  1200 miles divided by your mileage (25 average) gives you gallons used. Now take gallons used and multiply by $3.70.. That will be price per one way trip

  3. 22mpg55galx3.65=$200.00 ea way

  4. find out you MPG by using the odometer to calculate the number of miles between one fill up and the next. Then take that number and divide it by 18 and it will show you what your individual MPG is. you can take that number and plug it in with the trip mileage and determine how much gas you will consume. I would recommend saying $3.85 in your estimate per gallon due to gas changing in price on your journey. Good luck!.
